We’d be nowhere without our mothers. They bring us into the world, then spend the rest of their lives loving us through it—raising, guiding and forgiving. Through every phase—sweet, strange, slightly unhinged—they’re still there. That kind of love feels a little bit like magic.

This Mother’s Day, we spoke with five women we admire—Sofia Karvela, Lotte Mørch, Chloé Monchamp, Monét Mazur and Vibeke Ruud—about the mothers who shaped them, the ones they are, and everything in between. Think: favorite cuss words, lifelong memories and the moments that stick.

Best advice your mother gave you: Do you. 

One moment in motherhood that made you feel proud: My child yesterday interrupting a conversation and saying, “excuse me, may I ask you something Mommy?”

A lesson your child taught you: To let go and let God.

A favorite memory with your mom: Watching her perform and be the fierce human that she is, and then kind of realizing in that moment that we are related and she’s mine.

If you had to wear 1 MOTHER fit for the rest of your life, what would it be: What I’m wearing right now.

Your zodiac sign: Sagittarius / Scorpio cusp 

The most Sagittarius thing about you: Fucking volatile, unpredictable, and wildly free… wait does that have anything to do with being Sagittarius?

Name: Chloé Monchamp (Coco)

Favorite cuss word: Fuck!

Best advice your mother gave you: If you truly do your very best, the results don’t matter in the end. 

A favorite memory with your mom: All our travels, especially when we went to a Pilates retreat in Tuscany, with absolutely no expectations—and it turned out to be the most perfect 5 days.

Your zodiac sign: Sagittarius

The most Sagittarius thing about you: I am a living Sag, but definitely my freedom and adventurous soul. <3



Name: Lotte Mørch

Favorite cuss word: “For pokker” (basically “damn”) …and yes ofc “fuck.”

Best advice your mother gave you: Never let yourself be held back by Janteloven—the Scandinavian “don’t think you’re special” mindset. She taught me to ignore that and go for it anyway.

One moment in motherhood that made you feel proud: There are honestly so many proud moments. But one big one was Coco had a short but iconic career as a drummer and performed as a kid. :)

A lesson your child taught you: Don’t use the wrong emojis…and that love truly is unconditional.

A favorite memory with your mom: When she sewed the christening dress for her first grandchild, my daughter Coco. We had endless fittings because we thought it was so cute.

If you had to wear 1 MOTHER fit for the rest of your life, what would it be: The Lemon Twist Sneak in “Yes, Chef!”—forever and always.

Your zodiac sign: Gemini

The most Gemini thing about you: I struggle with making decisions (classic Gemini), but once I’ve made one, I’m all in and never look back.

Best advice your mother gave you: Not one specific sentence, but a way of living: Be kind, love fiercely and unconditionally, keep your private life private and stand on your own two feet. I once heard the phrase, “Love many, trust few and always paddle your own canoe,” and it feels very true to her.

One moment in motherhood that made you feel proud: Pride in motherhood comes in quiet, everyday moments. Watching my 13-year-old navigate the complexities of being a teenager while still being gentle and present with his younger siblings. Seeing my 10-year-old read a room so instinctively, always making sure everyone feels okay. And my 8-year-old daughter, who is unapologetically herself, open with her emotions and unafraid to stand her ground.

A lesson your child taught you: To take the high road, again and again.

A favorite memory with your mom: Watching her create magic with her hands. She’s an incredibly skilled seamstress, in addition to being an art teacher. I loved going with her to school and seeing what she and her students were making. We would always buy waffles at a local corner café, I can still remember the taste.

If you had to wear 1 MOTHER fit for the rest of your life, what would it be: The Reifler.

Your zodiac sign: Libra

The most Libra thing about you: Avoiding conflict, while somehow living in a constant state of inner debate, and overthinking every detail.

Name: Monét Mazur

Favorite cuss word: I go hard with motherfucker.

Best advice your mother gave you: Always write thank you notes, they go a long way!

One moment in motherhood that made you feel proud: Getting both of them in a photo with me. Joking but not really lol! My two sons are both total gentlemen and when they open the car door for me, I get teary.

A lesson your child taught you: They teach me how to use technology every day. 😂  

A favorite memory with your mom: Driving down the PCH in Malibu when I was a kid listening to Steely Dan and Fleetwood Mac in the car and thinking how beautiful she was singing to the music.

If you had to wear 1 MOTHER fit for the rest of your life, what would it be: My off-white SNACKS! Half-Pipe and the Bestie button down, duh!
