The discoveries start at the front door. In the storefront window sits a vintage MOTHER photo booth, where visitors will find a graffiti-covered phone book in which postcards and stickers have been tucked between the pages as a surprise. Just beyond that, a Cabinet of Curiosities features odds and ends sourced from all over the world. “One day it could be an art installation, and the next a full set-build inspired by the dioramas of the Natural History Museum,” Senior Art Director Anna Ullman says of the ever-changing curation. “The hope is that it feels like stepping inside one of our campaign sets.”
The Cabinet is an invitation into the MOTHER world: “It sets the tone for the store, reinforcing that this is a place for storytelling and creativity as much as it is for shopping,” says Bell, noting additional details, like the denim stacked on vintage stools, the playing cards scattered across depression glass cake stands and a custom mirrored stained-glass crystal commissioned from artist Luda that reflects the space’s ever-changing light. “Every detail was chosen to tell a story.”
To that end, there are store exclusives, too: matchboxes, a lighter, shopping tote and a small drawstring bag in the flagship’s signature red-burgundy color. Concert-style T-shirts and sweatshirts spell out “MOTHER Beverly Hills” in a gothic font, while a matcha-green ringer tee bears the greeting “Matcha Fucker.”
